September 2011
Hi folks,
The 2011-2012 ski season begins. The
Omaha Ski Club has been fortunate these last few years to retain many of their
members and gain a few new members along the way. Last year we completed five
trips to Copper Mtn, Telluride, Steamboat, Durango/Wolf Creek and Jackson Hole.
We have had “exotic dinners” at some of the Omaha area establishments and have
had monthly Board meetings. During the summer, we have been busy planning trips
to offer our members. This year we start at Copper Mtn followed by Vail. We then
join with FSA for the Crested Butte Trip followed by our premier week-long trip
to Banff and Lake Louise Canada. We are able to offer these trips and get
discounted tickets/lodging only when our members sign-up to go with us. Most
areas offer “group” pricing to groups of 20 or more. It is hard to plan for the
trip with 20 and not have the numbers. The club loses money when we have to then
pay for the difference between a group and individual pricing. We may plan to
offer another trip in mid February if the membership numbers are adequate on the
other four offerings. If you have any suggestions, let Teri know so she can plan
the trip!
This summer,
with the water as high as it was, has me wondering what the snow will be like
next winter. “Will there be as much snow this ski season?” It's been a long
time since I skied as many days on powder as I did last season. I had new snow
on every trip that I went on. The most was at Jackson Hole. When we were there
last season, they had received their 530th inch of snow. With that in mind I
think that everyone should sign up for at least one trip because I think this
will be another good season!
